MJ's Interweb Open House!

Thanks for stopping by!  Sit back, relax, and go grab a drink...get ready for a glimpse into "my world".  Enjoy this area.  It's for you, my clients, friends, and family.  Here, you'll get sneak peeks into my latest photo shoots and glimpses into my crazy world!

I'm Michael.  I'm a father, husband, son, brother, and dog lover.  I've got the most beautiful wife, the smartest, funniest, and most handsome son, a sweet baby girl on the way, and a dog who loves me unconditionally.  I love my life.  It's simple, uncomplicated, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

I write, eat, shave, and brush my teeth left-handed.  Everything else (throwing a football, etc.) I do right-handed.  What's that mean?  Who knows.  I like to think that I've got the best of both worlds...I'm structured and creative.  Take a look at my work and you'll see those traits shining through!

Cheers!

Jennifer & Daniel | Florida Panhandle & Beach Engagement Photographer

Jennifer and Daniel are obviously special people, as evidenced by their friends and their actions.  Several months ago, I was contacted by Tara who wanted to do something really special and offer a unique gift to her friends who were getting married down south this year but were unable to schedule an Engagement session with their photographer due to travel conflicts.  I can’t really think of a more endearing and enduring gift to offer than photography…what a treat; and what a friend!

After getting in touch with Jennifer and Daniel, we decided to have our session at the beautiful Watercolor Resort in Santa Rosa Beach, FL.  We were blessed with gorgeous weather and had a great time exploring the resort (with their sweet Rottweiler, Dakota) to find opportunities to capture their romance through imagery.  Enjoy these images from our time at Watercolor and be sure to wish Jennifer and Daniel the best of luck for their upcoming wedding.

Cole | Tallahassee Newborn Baby Photographer

What can you say about Cole?  This little dude is one cool customer.  I mean, when he’s fed he’s content to sleep the day away.  And when he’s awake, he’s SO eager to check out the world around him.  And to top it off…he’s strong!  I’m talking, like, crazy baby strong.  We’d position him on his belly for a shot and the next thing I know he’s over there doing pushups to see what’s going on.  I look back and then he’s doing them one-armed!!  Ok, well, maybe not one-armed.  But I’m pretty sure he could if he wanted to.

Most importantly, though, you can say that he sure is loved.  He’s got some gushing parents, doting grandparents, and labradors banished to the backyard to prove it!  Thanks to Cole’s parents for allowing me to share an afternoon with them and try to mentally prepare myself for what lurks ahead.  Enjoy this sneak peek of Cole’s session and be sure to leave Cole’s parents a comment!

Ely | Tallahassee Maternity & Pregnancy Photography

When Ely first got in touch with me to shoot her maternity session I was excited because I always enjoy working with ladies during the peak of their pregnancy, especially now that my wife is reaching that point as well.  However, Ely had some pretty specific ideas and a unique creative vision of what she wanted to do and how she wanted to celebrate her pregnancy and showcase her shape.  When she sent me some images of shots she’d like to try to emulate, I have to admit that I was a bit *surprised* but even more eager to see if I could pull them off!  I love a challenge and I love seeing how one’s creative vision reflects their own unique style and personality.  Realizing this is probably her last, Ely is truly embracing this pregnancy and the beautiful figure she has taken on as a result and wanted to capture some images of her form as she carries the amazing gift inside of her.

Under the piercing, judgemental gaze of her husband Jon (just kidding ;) –I’m pretty sure he was the most chill out of all of us) and several jokes about needing some alcohol, we tastefully and elegantly celebrated Ely’s maternity through my lens.  I’m proud to offer a sneak peek of Ely’s images below.

Monkey Rocks! | Tallahassee Portrait Photographer

I hear it ALL the time.  Just today, during a photography session, one of my clients asked, “you must have thousands of amazing photographs of your family?”  Well, unfortunately, the answer is–I don’t.  It’s funny how it becomes harder and harder to find the time to steal away just a few moments to turn the camera inward and look upon your own lives.  Don’t get me wrong, we have great images from all sorts of occasions but we don’t frequently make the effort to set aside time to flip the lens around on ourselves.  That is, until last week.  Granted, it all started because we owed some dear friends some images.  You see, the rocking chair below was hand-crafted by our friend’s grandfather specially for our little boy and all he asked for in return was a picture of Mattox on it.  Instead of grabbing the much more convenient point-n-shoot of April’s, I set a date with the family to capture some equally-special portraits of our little guy on it.  All I can say is that it was totally worth it.  I’m truly blessed…in more ways than I’ll ever know.  Enjoy these few images of my growing boy and a special little capture of Mattox throwing his unborn sister some love.

March 3, 2010 - 5:29 pm Suzanne & David McCandless - Great pictures Michael. Glad to see everyone is doing so well.

March 1, 2010 - 8:33 pm Melissa - I agree with Mary. My eyes are watering. That is the sweestest picture ever and those are the best shots of Mattox that I have seen. I love them!

March 1, 2010 - 6:59 pm Mary Dixon - Oh wow! That last photo made me cry.... That's what photography is all about; not just capturing the moment, but helping other people live it again, through it. Thank you for sharing all of the photos. MJ, great job!

March 1, 2010 - 2:45 pm BaBa and NiNi - These are just beautiful, as are the two and a half subjects. So glad you took the time to take these. Now, you're going to have visitors again; NiNi can't stand it...!

March 1, 2010 - 1:53 pm Sommer Blackburn - Pop-Pop will love these photos!Nothing makes him happier than to see his "little hobby" bring joy to a young child! Thanks for sending him copies! Love you!!

March 1, 2010 - 11:10 am Jill - He is so so handsome! The sky is gorgeous in the background!! I am in LOVE with that last shot!!
