My Gear Bag

Michael B. Johnston Photography uses only professional caliber Nikon digital single lens reflex camera equipment and accessories. During every shoot, it is not uncommon for Michael to utilize a variety of professional, state-of-the-art lenses, bodies, and strobes to capture the moments…from the wide-angled spans to the intimate details of a bride’s dress.

Additionally, we employ cutting-edge, industry standard software to facilitate a standardized workflow and later engage the digital “darkroom” to present your images with vivid detail and creative flare–faster.

While at the leading edge of technology, these tools are only that…tools. They are only as good as the photographer wielding them and the creative vision that he engages. Insist that your photographer brings with him the creative vision that meets your style and sensibilities.

“Buying a Nikon doesn’t make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner.”

Without fail, I always get asked what I shoot with, what brand I prefer, etc.  Whether it’s from clients who want to “ensure” that I’ve got the necessary tools or from tech-heads who are just curious, the questions, while relevant, should be thought of from a few angles.  The first thing to remember is that these tools are just that…tools.  While they technically help generate the final product, it is the Photographer’s vision that paints the image.  Secondly, one needs to ensure that their photographer is prepared in the event that something goes awry.  Do they have backups?  Are they prepared for the worst case scenario?  Are you going to entrust your memories to someone who isn’t prepared?  And lastly, I’m a Nikon brand guy.  Why?  Because I started with them, I know them, and I trust in their products.  Who do you trust?
